New Zealand is home to the Southern Alps, a magnificent mountain range forming the back bone of the South Island. It is at the edge of this winter wonderland that www.nzski.com provides its three distinctively different premier ski areas, Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt and The Remarkables.
Three ski areas, three personalities, three sets of dedicated, die-hard fans. Collectively they offer a complete New Zealand snow experience earning them an award and reputation as one of New Zealand’s best Visitor Attractions.
GROOMERS: Two brand new PB600 groomers have arrived from Germany, making Coronet Peak's fleet one of the most modern in New Zealand
WEBCAMS: New high resolution web cams have been installed, ensuring the best views for those wanting to check out snow conditions
NIGHTSKIING: 110 new lights have been installed to give riders and skiers over 4km more of accessible terrain on Friday and Saturday nights. A new purpose built 'Park after Dark' with boxes, rails and plenty of hits for those who like to hit the terrain parks under lights. A 16mx11m airbag has been purchased and will be set up next to the Elephant Pit reservoir. Brand new night ski menu including twilight specials and $10 pizzas every Friday and Saturday night.
KIDS ZONE: A new kids 'Fun Zone' underneath the Meadows chair will feature berms, boxes, rollers and a tunnel for beginners to play in.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE: The Ice Bar at the top of Greengates chairlift boasts incredible 360-degree views and has been a popular addition to Coronet Peak since 2012. In 2014 we are improving the whole experience by offering more seating and working on the overall atmosphere.
TRIPLE CHAIR LIFT: Mt Hutt's Triple Chair has been reinstated after an avalanche took it out at the beginning of the 2013 ski season. New layout and approach to the load area, making it easier and quicker for guests to get onto the lift
TERRAIN PARK: New 'Sky High' mini terrain park near the top of the mountain between Morning Glory and Wiley's Way. Aimed at the beginner and intermediate rider, the park is an excellent introduction to freestyle riding for those wanting to give it a go. The trail network has been widened for ease of access into and out of the park.
GROOMERS: Two state-of-the-art 'PB400 Park Bully's' from Germany join the modern fleet of groomers ensuring nothing but the best quality 'corduroy' for skiers and riders to enjoy.
ACCESS ROAD: To improve safety of guests, extra road barriers have been installed on the access road at key points.
BASE BUILDING: The ticketing area in the base building entry area has been renovated to improve efficiency at Guest Services. Following its introduction in 2013 at Coronet Peak and The Remarkables, free wifi access will be available to all guests at Mt Hutt
CURVEY BASIN CHAIRLIFT: Brand new Six-seat high-speed, detachable Leitner-Poma chairlift for 2014! 1.2km long. Bottom terminal sits at 1600m and rises 300m vertical to a top terminal at 1900m. The new lift will transport up to 2,400 people an hour with potential to grow to 2800 people per hour
TRAIL DEVELOPMENT: Expansion of bottom learners area - 20% more learners area. 1.6km of new trails a minimum of 30m wide and catering for novice to intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Additional grooming will open up more trails as snow accumulates through the season.
