Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt and The Remarkables collectively offer the ultimate New Zealand skiing and snowboarding experience. Three distinct ski areas located near two unique resort towns - Coronet Peak and The Remarkables in Queenstown and Mt Hutt in Methven, Canterbury.
These three ski areas are owned and operated by South Island Company, NZSki Ltd (NZSki). The company is committed to the on going development of the ski areas, their industry partners and local resort communities.
Extensive capital investment in recent years has considerably upgraded the infrastructure at all three mountains. Investing heavily in its staff, snowmaking, grooming, transport and rental equipment to ensure that the guests' experience is the best it can possibly be and to get NZSki one step closer its vision "to lead the world in Snowsports experiences". Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt and The Remarkables offer a premier snow holiday, usually from early June to mid October.
Background Information on the Company NZSki Ltd.
Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt are collectively owned by NZSki Limited. NZSki Ltd is a tourism organisation comprising several experienced South Island tourism operators.
The directors of NZSki Ltd are:
- John Davies
- Mike Davies
- Jacqui Davies
- Duncan Smith

- James Coddington
The company purchased the ski areas from previous owner Air New Zealand in June 2002. At the time of the purchase, Coronet Peak manager and Managing Director of NZSki Ltd Duncan Smith said the company partners shared a common belief in the outstanding potential of Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt and in the New Zealand tourism industry.
Belief holds true today and the entirely locally owned company continues to demonstrate its commitment to timely development that delivers long term benefits to customers, industry partners and the resort communities of Queenstown and Methven.
Coronet Peak and The Remarkables are located near Queenstown, New Zealand’s premier four season alpine resort destination. Mt Hutt at Methven is located near Christchurch and is the leading ski area in the Canterbury region.
Check out the European BBQ - locally made bratwursts and chorizo in a roll, on offer for the first time at the hugely popular Greengates Ice Bar - wash one down with a glass of fabulous Amisfield Pinot Noir mulled wine.
Sit back, relax and soak in the great views, great company, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
THE 'spot to be seen' will be at the new-look Heidi's Hut at the base of the Rocky Gully T-bar. There'll be a whole new menu on offer and you'll have to book to secure yourself a coveted table inside by the roaring log fire. The best place to be for spotting international race stars when they're training on the mountain.
Panini's, toasted sandwiches and a variety of bakery items are all going to be available in the new Coronet Café deli. This will be found in the Coronet Café in the base building.
Cupid pays a visit to Coronet Peak for its Singles Night on September 6 as part of Gay Ski Week. Ride the Cupid Express to the top of the mountain with staff playing matchmaker with those in the pink or blue lane...
Mt Hutt's celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and plans for a celebratory weekend on August 3 and 4 are underway. Details are yet to be confirmed but fireworks and a special night ski are potentially in the pipeline.
Work over summer means the re-vamped Early Childhood Centre on the mountain can now care for littlies as young as three months to five years old, cared for by qualified educators and leaving Mum and Dad free to enjoy the slopes.
Don't miss the new Sky Bar located in the Sky High Café where alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks along with snacks will be available to purchase.
Methven and Mt Hutt's amazing kids4free programme, available to everyone who visits the mountain regardless of where they're from, offers kids 10 years and under free day lift passes every day, and free transport, accommodation, and meals when accompanied by a paying adult. Visit www.kids4free.co.nz
Trail widening and improvements over summer have been on-going, with an ongoing programme of developing more user-friendly trails specifically for beginners and intermediates. The Tubing Park will move to a new, more visible location in the beginners area so even if you're not planning to take to skis or a board, you can still get your 'on-the-snow' fun fix.
Check out the Burton Snow Boards programmes -- freestyle camps designed for intermediate and above skiers and riders who want to learn how to progress in the terrain parks. The hugely popular clinics include transport, breakfast and lunch, morning and afternoon sessions, and a downtown after party to wrap it all up. Dates are August 3 and September 7 and places fill up fast.
The smell of bacon butties wafting on the breeze as you ride the Alta Chairlift will lead you straight to the fantastic Ice Bar at The Remarkables. A great spot to hang out over a drink or a snack with family and friends.
This year the tubing park has been moved from the top of Alta Chair down next the learner's area. This makes it a lot more visible on the mountain and a lot more accessible to those who are not skiing on riding. Expect to see plenty of people enjoying this unique snow activity.

Performance Rental Equipment
All three mountains have an ongoing programme of replacing ski and snowboard rental equipment (Snowboards not available at Mt Hutt only) with the very latest gear. Half the rental gear (skis, boards, boots) is brand new 2014 stock featuring brand such as Volkl, Atomic, Solomon, K2, Head and Dynastar, while the remainder is guaranteed to be no more than two years old. It's a great way to test out the latest equipment before you buy, and perfect for those who don't want to bring heavy gear with them
