The Remarkables Story

High in The Remarkables mountain range near Queenstown The Remarkables Ski Area offers a true alpine experience in three sunny bowls where 220 skiable hectares of terrain spreads across 700 hectares of reserve. Three quad chairs, one magic carpet and one beginner tow offer access to the trails and parks.

The Remarkables is a great place to soak up winter sun and watch the playful antics of New Zealand’s native parrot, the Kea where the emphasis is on fun.

The youngest ski area in the region, The Remarkables opened in 1985. Its youth is reflected in its popularity among young, hip snowboarders and freeskiers who love the terrain parks and the 150m FIS specification Parklife Superpipe. At the other end of the scale the Homeward Bound run is widely considered New Zealand’s best backcountry trail inside ski area boundaries. And there’s a purpose built Tubing Park for those family members looking for something not-too-serious to do.

The Remarkables is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and great value for families - any child ten years and under gets a day pass for free. The novice slopes are easily accessed by chairlift while beginners enjoy a magic carpet right in front of the sun deck. Snowmaking, increased by 75% for the 2006 season ensures good, consistent snow cover on several main trails.

There’s an award-winning ski and snowboard school, café, retail shop and equipment hire and regular live music on the deck or in the café. The Remarkables is a 45-minute drive from Queenstown and is scheduled to open from June 23 until October.
