The Coronet Peak Story

Queenstown’s Coronet Peak is the South Island’s most popular ski area – and with good reason. Diverse terrain, fantastic views, proximity to Queenstown and a cosmopolitan ambience create a superb winter experience for every level of snow sport enthusiast.

Regarded by many as the birthplace of South Island skiing, Coronet Peak is host to many sporting and social events including the FIS rated Southern Cup and the Southern Hemisphere’s ultimate winter celebration, the Lindauer Queenstown Winter Festival. It is also the training ground of New Zealand’s National Ski Team.

Coronet Peak has 280 skiable hectares accessed by a six seater express chair, an express quad, a double chair, a t-bar, magic carpet and beginner tow. Extensive, state-of-at-art snowmaking ensures a long season while stunning views of lake and mountain add to the casually sophisticated ambience.

The day starts early with ‘first tracks’ pass holders hitting the slopes at 8am and on Friday and Saturday nights finishes late with night skiing until 9pm.

There’s a FIS specification Fruju half pipe and a dedicated Dirty Dog terrain park and the mountain’s longest run, the M1-Big Easy is 2.4 km long and popular with intermediate and advanced skiers and riders.

An award-winning ski and snowboard school, extensive children’s facilities including a licensed crèche and full base facilities are all on offer. Children six and under ski enjoy free day passes.

Coronet Peak is a short 25-minute (18km) drive along a fully sealed road from Queenstown. The ski area has a targeted opening date of June 10 and the season generally lasts until early October.
